Welcome to Marie: a monumental 17th-century canal house at Keizersgracht 630, fully renovated by DME Amsterdam into a stylish, sustainable office. Turn-key and future-proof, this 303 m² VVO building spans six floors and a private, south-facing garden.
A Celebration of 17th-Century Canal House Architecture
Marie’s origins trace back to the 17th century, when it was built as a private residence. Its blackened façade carries a richly ornamented neck gable, crowned by oeil-de-boeuf windows; small oval openings that add both flourish and daylight to the top floor. Like many canal houses, Marie has quietly shifted from home to workplace, without losing the character that made it one.
A Hidden Gem
Marie takes its name from Marie Katz-Geesink, one of the building’s former residents. Today, her name lives on in a building reshaped for a new generation of work, where original ornaments and detailing have been carefully preserved throughout DME Amsterdam’s renovation.
Built for What's Next
Despite its status as a national monument, Marie holds an A+ energy label — achieved in part through solar panels, with double-glazed insulation now underway to push its sustainability further still.
